New to the UK?
Obtaining a National Insurance Number:
You should contact your local Job Centre Plus and book an appointment to see an advisor. You will need to attend a short interview and complete relevant forms. These will be forwarded to the Department for Work and Pensions, and you should receive your National Insurance number within four weeks.
Right to work in the UK:
If you are a national of one of the states which joined the EU in 2004, you may be subject to the Workers Registration Scheme. This affects nationals from the following countries:
- Poland
- Lithuania
- Estonia
- Latvia
- Slovenia
- Slovakia
- Hungary
- The Czech Republic

You have one month from when you start work to apply for a WRS registration certificate. The UK Boarder Agency will forward a copy of this directly to your employer.
